  • Just In Perspective: Embrace Your First Step

    Ready, Set, GO!

Lao Tzu, the Chinese philosopher and writer, once wrote, “千里之行,始于足下,” which translates roughly to, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” So simple: a thousand miles seems daunting, but just take the first step, and you’re on your way. So go! Begin!

There’s something powerful about beginnings. They mark the moment we choose to take that first step and embrace the unknown. Blogs allow us to capture and share thoughts, experiences, and perspectives with others, creating a community. That is my vision and goal.

For years, I considered writing a blog but hesitated—waiting for the perfect time, the right words, the most compelling angle. I was convinced no one would want to read my perspectives. Yet, every day, I find myself sharing my views on just about everything, and I’ve lost count of how many people have asked if I had a blog. Thoughts left unshared die in our minds. And waiting for perfection means nothing moves forward. If there’s anything I’ve learned in my career and personal journey, it’s this: perfection is the enemy of progress. So let’s begin. I’m not late; I’m just-in-time!

    Who is Justin Tang?

At my core, I’m a strategic thinker, problem-solver, and builder. Over the past 25 years, I’ve built a career at the intersection of supply chain, technology, and operations. I’ve worked with some of the biggest names in retail, technology and consulting—Nordstrom, Microsoft, Slalom, and others—helping organizations streamline processes, optimize efficiencies, and implement large-scale transformations. One of my super powers is the ability to connect with people quickly and almost immediately have the rapport to give advise.

At my core, I’m a strategic thinker, problem-solver, and builder. Over the past 25 years, I’ve built a career at the intersection of supply chain, technology, and operations. I’ve worked with major companies like Nordstrom, Microsoft, and Slalom, helping organizations streamline processes, optimize efficiencies, and implement large-scale transformations. One of my superpowers is the ability to connect with people quickly and build instant rapport.

But my journey didn’t start in boardrooms or warehouses. It began in my family’s restaurant, where I grew up as the third son of Chinese immigrants who worked tirelessly to build a life in the United States. I learned the value of hard work, adaptability, and resourcefulness—qualities that later shaped my approach to business and leadership. From a young age, the restaurant experience instilled a customer-first mentality in me.

Outside of my professional life, I’m passionate about food (both cooking and eating), technology, and continuous learning. Seattle is my home, where I share my life with my two miniature schnauzers, Kenzo and Henry. Whether experimenting in the kitchen, exploring the latest tech gadgets, or engaging in deep conversations about life, I’m constantly looking for ways to challenge myself, grow, and support others in their aspirations. And while we do this, let’s have fun!

    WHAT IS THIS BLOG ABOUT?

Just In Perspective is about thinking critically, exploring different points of view, and discovering transformative opportunities in business and life. It’s about questioning the status quo, embracing new ways of thinking, and recognizing that sometimes the best time to act is now.

Here are some key themes I plan to explore:

    1. The Agility of Just-In-Time Thinking – More than a supply chain strategy, JIT is a mindset. We’ll explore how this philosophy applies to business, leadership, and personal growth.

    2. Epicuriosity – A blend of epicurean delights and curiosity, this section will focus on food adventures, cooking techniques, and the joy of trying new flavors.

    3. Gadgets, Tools & Toys – From kitchen tech to business tools, I’ll review and discuss innovations that enhance efficiency and bring joy.

    4. Radical Self-Care & Compassionate Growth – Personal development isn’t just about productivity; it’s about well-being. I’ll share insights on mental health, self-improvement, and growth.

    5. Relationships & Connection – Leadership, friendship, family, and love shape our lives. I’ll explore the dynamics of human connection and the importance of evolving together.

    6. 杂碎 (Chop Suey): Miscellaneous Musings – Sometimes, the best insights come from unexpected places. This category is for random thoughts, observations, and ideas that don’t fit neatly anywhere else.

    WHAT’S NEXT?

In my next post, I’ll take a deeper dive into the Just-In-Time philosophy—how it’s evolved, why it matters, and how we can apply it to our daily lives. We’ll explore what it means to balance planning with spontaneity, structure with flexibility, and perfection with progress.

I invite you to join me on this journey. Whether you’re a leader seeking new strategies, an explorer of ideas, or simply someone curious about the intersection of business and life, I hope this space provides value, inspiration, and maybe even a few good laughs.

If there’s one thing I know for sure, it’s this: the right time to start is now.

Welcome to my community. Our goal is not just to keep everything Just In Perspective, but to develop an Omni-Perspective.

    Stay tuned…
